The major component of HRDP is making water accessible to the community in the intervention villages. Despite the fact that the state receives maximum rainfall in the country, majority of villages don't have access to water supply. The people have to travel long distances to fetch water. Under HRD Project household water connections have been provided to four villages namely; Khogwing, Markang , Umwang Nongbah and Umpathaw in Umling block of Ri-bhoi district, something that has never happened in the state. The state provides community water platforms in the villages through PHE department. Apart from this, the water supply situation in other eight villages in Umling block has been improved . These villages are- Pahamjiri, Marmain, Dondral, Belkuri, Sohtad, Umlakhar, Ronghilik and Mawlong. The project rolled out the awareness generation programme on safe drinking water for the community.
