Despite the best efforts by the government to make health facilities available to its people, even primary health care remain inaccessible to a large number people in rural areas. Most of these people are children, women and the elders. Medical Health Units (MHU) are a vital and useful mechanism to reach out to people living in remote villages breaking geographical barriers. Most of these villages are devoid of public health facilities. At times the deprived or the marginalized are not able to seek medical help due to variety of economic and social problems. The impact of MMUs can be gauged from the fact that the Central Govt. has accepted Mobile Medicare as a highly effective means of delivery of health services.
