Sadly, more than 365 death and a few hundred missing. Wayanad, needs the support of everyone and we have deep routed faith in coming together and extend the much-needed support for our fellow beings.
Already a lot of support in the form of relief kits, foods, clothes and other items have reached the spot, besides promises by many leading personalities, industries to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund!
SACH, a national NGO that works in Kerala had provided credible and lasting support to the residents of Kavalam Panchayat during the last devastating flood in 2018. SACH was able to mobilise support worth more than3 crore rupees, provided mobile medical services for more than 4 months in collaboration with Pushpagiri Medical College and rehabilitation support, clean and RO drinking water plants, etc. Currently it runs a state-of-the art free treatment center, training and education to children affected with Neuro Disorders and Diseases at Thalayazham Vaikom (www.sansvitha.org).
Our Kerala advisory group members have already visited Wayanad to provide immediate support and understand long term rehabilitation requirements.
Our Plans
Immediate Relief Activities (after 1 month of disaster):
- Help people rebuild life: basic medical services (including medicines) and psychosocial counselling by our doctors and Counsellors.
- Provide coordination support to tribal families in remote villages with special focus on families with disabled children and aged parents. We have already identified close to 18 such families who need such special care and support
- Identify those who lost their kith's and kins in the disaster and devise plans to help them withstand the trauma and loss of beloved ones' as well as rehabilitate by providing shelter and livelihood support
Long term plans
- Socio-economic Support: Assisting affected families in rebuilding their lives through livelihood restoration programs, skill development, and financial aid.
- Educational Support: Ensuring that children affected by the floods can continue their education through the provision of school supplies, rebuilding of damaged school infrastructure.
- Build homes for those who have lost their homes with special focus on tribal and differently-abled people
- Community Resilience Building: Implementing community-based disaster preparedness and resilience programs to mitigate the impact of future disasters.
